Over the last decade, Canada’s gaming industry has risen to prominence and become a key player in the global games economy. According to a report from the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC), the Canadian games industry contributed $4.5 billion to the GDP, which was a 20% increase since 2017. Due to the incredible increase in talent coming to and found in the country, Canada has become the third-largest source of game development in the world.
So why are developers flocking to and growing in Canada? There is a multitude of reasons including the Canadian government’s willingness to provide financial support for studios through tax incentives, the increasing focus on gaming education, and of course the rise of mainstream gaming. Among companies such as Ubisoft Montreal, Next Level Games, and BioWare Edmonton, Behaviour Interactive is leading the way by being the largest independent game development studio in Canada. The company’s chief marketing officer David Reid will take audiences through his talk on the contribution of Canada to the global games industry, the reasons Canada is flourishing as a gaming hub, and the country’s future at snagging the top spot in global gaming.
