Director of Instructional Technology for the Clinton County R-III School District in Plattsburg, MO. Brandon is a technologist whose strategies and passion for problem solving have helped transform his district. He believes that tech is about humans, not just hardware. Brandon is also currently developing a micro-credentialing platform and presented the beta release at ISTE 2019 in Philadelphia. He also works with EdTech focused group VRoKCs to provide hackathon opportunities to students.

A hackathon (hack-a-thon) may be defined as a manner of work that is strongly connected with new technologies. “A programing sprint (also referred to as a hackathon) is a type of a workshop, where the participants co-design and put into practice internet and IT projects. In our efforts along side VRoKCs we have provided students several opportunities to solve real world problems through VR/AR development. In these hackathons students are presented with a problem statement and given 1 day of planning (Friday) followed by 1 day of development (Saturday) and then given the opportunity to present the solution to a panel of judges (Sunday).

In our session we will speak briefly about how this came to be from initial brainstorming session to our most recent & 5th hackathon. We will bring students to demo some of the work they have completed at the hackathons and will also allow students to speak a little about what these experiences have meant to them. We will finish with Q/A.
