In most fiction, the writer uses the protagonist to move the story forward. In massively multiplayer, persistent world RPGs, the writer often doesn't have that luxury, especially if the player character can have any personality and outlook the player can imagine. Using examples from the Elder Scrolls Online and other sources, Lead Writer Bill Slavicsek explores ways to bring stories to life that don't rely on knowing the goals and motivations of the protagonist. Along the way, he'll also delve into methods for telling deeper and richer stories in the medium, creating memorable NPCs, and improving your writing by drawing on both his tabletop and video game writing experience.
