Augmented Reality to Improve Pediatric Hospitalizations

April 17 at 10:15 am - 11:15 am

Room: 302A

By Dr. Richard Hobbs and Steven King

Adventure Squad is an augmented reality game designed to mobilize hospitalized children, improve discharge times, prevent complications, and brighten children’s stays while in the hospital. Our talk will focus on the ground-up design approach that uses serious gaming to tackle real-world problems. We will walk through the design process, focusing on reaching an audience of all abilities, and discuss why each technology was purposefully selected and incorporated into the game. Additionally, we will share how we addressed stakeholders and privacy issues for this unique population. Finally, we will also discuss age-level appropriate narrative creation and how the narrative reinforces the overall game message.
